Welcome to the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce and the community of Shelby County. We are located at 157 West Washington Street. If you have any questions about our website, membership, or our community, please contact the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce at 31. We offer a wide range of services and benefits to meet the needs of our membership. We accomplish this through effective partnerships and communication with help from our volunteers and staff. Our focus is to market the Shelby County area to build a healthy economic environment and to promote our membership and our community. Our membership represents small organizations, big corporations, and individuals involved in business in Shelby County and the surrounding areas. We serve our members by delivering benefits they value including networking and marketing opportunities, visibility, and community leadership options. Our Mission: We advocate for business growth and support the success of our members, while collaborating with partners to promote Shelby County as a highly desirable community in which to live, work, and play. The Chamber board, staff, and our volunteers are ready to assist you, whether you are a visitor to this area, a current business owner, or you are preparing to relocate here. An Alumni banquet is held every other year. A total of 344 pupils were graduated from Tennant High School. The smallest class to graduate was 3 students. In the winter they used bobsleds. The last class to graduate from Tennant was in 1959 when Tennant and Shelby schools consolidated. It has been written that it was one of the very first such schools in Iowa to be formed by such a consolidation. The pupils were hauled to school in horse-drawn school busses. In 1913 the consolidated independent School District of Tennant was formed by joining four one room school districts - Districts No. Trains began running in 1903, and continued until the abandonment of the railway in 1971. The town was platted with the coming of the Chicago-Great Western Railroad in 1902. Tennant is located in Shelby County and is one of the most beautiful and bountiful communities in Western Iowa and is surrounded by prosperous farming and livestock raising.
